PORSCHE 911 GT2 RS (991)

The Porsche 911 GT2 RS has to be one of my favourite Supercars at the present time. A truly outstanding road car from Porsche that has significantly moved the goal posts of the Perfect Sports Supercar. With 700 hp & 553 ft-lb torque from the twin turbocharged flat six engine – these are pure racing car figures. I had the privilege to drive a Porsche 911 Turbo S (993) with only 450 hp & that was rather quick, with a 0-60 mph time of 3.5 secs & 0-100 mph in 8.9 secs, certainly up there in the performance car world.

The Porsche 911 GT2 RS (991) is simply in another league even when compared to its older 911 Turbo S Brother, with a 0-60 mph in 2.7 secs, 0-100 mph in 5.8 secs & just for good measure 0-124 mph in 8.3 secs. Oh yeah & a top speed of 211 mph. A proper Turbo Engined Top Trumps Supercar!

I have always been a fan of the wide body 911’s & the GT2 RS has to be the pinnacle of this design. The integration of the aerodynamic styling with the functional requirements of a road car with race car performance (on the road) is beyond question, which results in a very purposeful looking Supercar matching the performance envelope of this 911.

I once did about 2000 miles in the first week in one of my previously owned new cars, a Honda Integra R, purely because the car was so much fun, had massive involvement for the driver & stuck to the road like superglue, all with a racing car sound track. I can imagine that the GT2 RS takes this experience to another almost unreal experience on the road. I’m sure that I could easily achieve 4000 miles in the first week of ownership with a Porsche 911 GT2 RS!

With front tyres 265/35 ZR 20 & rear tyres 325/30 ZR 21 providing a classic 911 stance & road presence, the GT2 RS certainly has plenty of low profile sticky rubber on the road. With Carbon Ceramic brakes measuring 410 mm diameter at the front & 390 mm diameter at the rear, there won’t be any brake fade whatsoever on the road or track. A perfect combination of Wheels, Tyres & Brake discs in my opinion, especially with the Weissach package option of magnesium wheels, with centre locking.

With a Record Breaking Nordschleife lap-time of 6 mins 47.3 secs a mightily impressive time for any road-car including Hypercars, clearly showing how complete & dominating the Porsche 911 GT2 RS is when compared to all current road cars.

The classic 911 side profile styling is outstanding paying homage to all previous GT 911 models & Turbo 911 models.

On the track be prepared for mind blowing straight-line acceleration & lateral cornering g forces that will make you feel like an Formula 1 driver. With the GT2 RS you’ll soon develop strong neck muscles.

The only other road car to overtake you on the track will be another Porsche 911 GT2 RS! Yes there are other higher horsepower road cars out there, some being mid engined as well, but remember a mildly tweaked GT2 RS with say 30% extra horsepower would have a power output of 910 hp at its disposal, easily obtained with a free flowing tuned exhaust & a little conservative re-mapping of the engine management systems. Okay maybe I’m getting a little bit carried away or I am just looking into the future for the next generation of Porsche 911 GT2 RS.

GT Silver Metallic paint is my favourite colour for the Porsche 911 GT2 RS. In reality I would be very happy with any of the Porsche Colours, with Black, Guards Red & Miami Blue all excellent choices contributing in defining the car’s awesome racing-car like presence on the road.
